I've seen press pots before, and was willing to try one, so I did some research before settling on the 30 oz. GSI Outdoors Java Press. I figured it was a good entry level price point, and it would let me gauge whether I would want another one. Well, I've had it about a year and have used it regularly, both at home and afield, and can say that it's the only coffee maker I carry when camping now, and the quality is such that I'm not planning to replace it (except, perhaps, with the larger one). The first thing I noticed was the packaging. The box is of good quality and was designed so that the press can be repackagd when not in use. I did that for the first few months (wanting to protect my little investment), but soon took to keeping it where it was handy. The 30 oz. capacity is perfect if using an ultralight kettle, or a 1 qt. pot. If... Cusumano (Fairfax, VA USA) - See all my reviews    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) this is a replacement for an older GSI press that finally cracked after 5 years of Boy Scout camping. Getting rid of the plastic handle makes this version A LOT easier to pack. The new press screen seems a lot sturdier too. And best of all... no more grounds either in the coffee or blocking the pour screen. In fact, the new press is so good they were able to get rid of the little screen that used to be in the pour spout. This review is from: GSI Outdoors Java Press Coffee Maker (Sports) This is the second lexan french press I have owned to use on camping trips and bicycle tours. Very happy with the GSI 30 oz. Nice tight seal with the plunger basket that allows zero grounds to sneak past. A little trick to save space is to store your grounds in a small bag inside the press.
