I removed the ladle and knives (redundancy in my backpack). I cooked over open fire and the pots held up fine. The utensils are nice, but know that they do not nest into the kit. Very good value IMO.Only reason I didn't give it a 5 star was that the cover was too small for the frying pan and the bowl/cups stained permanently after 1 cup of coffee. I asked him how this kit worked for him and he has no complaints. He brought it back after cooking with it and using it for a week. I washed it for him to store it for next time. It comes in a mesh bag with a draw string which washes easily and dries quickly. The lid fit over the pots and pans very nicely. The bowls, laddle and spatula washed nicely and held up nicely. I like the fact the you are able to squeeze the medal handle of the laddle to remove it for thorough washing. The pans were in excellent condition after being used all week and exposed to open flame cooking. They did get slightly discolored from burned food but it was not a big deal at all. The handles on the pot and pan were sturdy and well made. The only thing that I would have changed about these is the way it stores. The plastic utensils are useless, but the pans themselves are not bad. They have held up well for the handful of times I have used them. They are not so durable that I would take them on at extended thru hike, but more than sufficient for 5 or 6 days.It is nice to have a lid on my pot to make it boil faster; I think it is worth the few ounces so save on fuel. They will work well for an alcohol stove, or a camp fire. You should be careful of the plastic handles on an open camp fire. The plastic is more resilient than I expected and can put up with getting hit with some fire but I would not push it. Best part of the pans is that it will fit a small alcohol stove in them if you throw out the utensils like I did. The only down side besides them being a little thin is the handle on the lid to the pot is recessed to pack smaller. So you need to be very careful taking it off the pot or the metal will burn you. |
