I will note up front that I don't get to do loads of hiking, so these function as occasional dedicated hikers (maybe 6 - 8 dedicated day hiking trips annually) and frequent casual & recreational wear. If you're more than a recreational hiker, you would probably want to look for something waterproof unlike these Coremic Ridge 2 boots. That said here is my take on these...First off, these are pretty sturdy boots particularly around the ankle collars. They are a bit more stiff than other Columbia boots I've owned. They aren't uncomfortable but I wouldn't hit the trail for any length of time without breaking them in first. That said, they offer... Handles on rock, mud, sand, and dirt just great. I broke my pair in during a deer hunt here in New Mexico. I originally bought them for just hunting but since it's been snowing here in my town, I've been using them a lot more. They are not a cold weather shoe, around 35 degrees my toes began to get cold. I would suggest thinsulate socks or wool socks be worn with this boot if you plan on trekking in colder weather.They are very breathable and water proof. When walking in snow, they are really grippy and don't slip. They also handle just fine in thick mud and wet dirt. I have been working security detail at a pecan orchard and these shoes have done phenomenally, even after heavy rain mucked up the place.
