For hiking in the woods near home, I would prefer my Buckthorn Hiking Staff for its overall stability and strength.But for hiking in Hawaii that requires me to fly there first, my Buckthorn stick cannot pass airport checkpoint and get into airplane. Therefore, the next best choice would be a colappsible pole like this one because it can fit in the bottom of my carry-on luggage (it's only 12 inches long). I rate this one the best of its kind because: 1) It's strong enough for the purpose. People up to 200 lbs should have no problem trusting it. 2) Light weight. It's not heavier than your notebook !!! 3) Adjustable height at the top so that it fits most people. I think if you are between 5.0' to 6.5' you should be able to adjust it to your comfort. 4) Good price. I meant for this design and quality, $26 is fair. I am so glad I got this at the last minute for my Patagonia trip. While fellow travelers had to grapple with awkward poles that barely fit in suitcases, mine easily collapsed into a 12" bundle that fit in my travel purse until I needed it for a hike. It was very light weight and took up literally no space in the suitcase.Opening was a cinch - just took it out of its plastic pouch and it sprang into its lock shape instantly. It took the brunt of steep climbs without paths and held up beautifully, staying locked even with my full weight on it during steep descents. Collapsing it was just as easy when getting back on Zodiac boats.
