On another site, I noticed that out of 8 reviews, 6 gave 5 stars and 2 gave 4 stars. I really think it deserves 5. For it's size, weight, the number of batteries it uses and the price, it's an excellent value. It lights up an average sized room well enough to move around in and do basic activities. You can read by it if you sit very close to it. And if you need more light, it's cheap enough that you can afford another one. It uses 4 size D batteries and will run approximately 25 hours on high and 60 on low. That's pretty green!! And really, if you're just sitting around, low is bright enough. I haven't tried it outside (I bought it for power outages) but I think on high it would provide enough light. The box says it will light up 26 ft on high and 19.5 on low. Pros: good amount of light - box says 170 lumens CREE XR-E LED. Brighter than the dual fluorescent rechargeable Coleman I purchased about 10 years ago. Also uses less power- 350ma on low, 500ma on high (old one was 450ma/700ma). Has effective light diffuser. Rechargeable battery pack available. Has good sized carrying handle that fits the hand reasonably well. 5 year warranty.Cons: casing made with cheap brittle plastic. It will easily break if dropped from even waist level onto a hard surface. This is unacceptable for something people use for camping where it *will* get dropped or bounce around during transport. There are better plastics that could have been used (consider what Coleman uses for their ice chests, drop one from 10' onto concrete and it will barely get scratched).
